Be Still

At day’s end
When darkness enters
And night falls
When the flurry of activities subside
This is the time to be
To be still

As one goes to sleep
And the plethora
Of daily duties ends
Often signals the time to be awake
For in sleep
We are within
We are quiet
We are still
There are no disturbances
And we are free
To be
Who we truly are
So paradoxically
When we are asleep
We are awake
And when we are awake
We are asleep
And the cycle
Repeats itself
Day after day
Yet many now
Want to remain awake
For as the dawn breaks
And the light enters
There is a desire
There is a longing
There is a need
To better understand
The realm of the universe
To know oneself
And to be
One with self
